I am writing to let you know that Senate has decided to cancel this year’s Convocation in keeping with current public safety directives and to ensure the safety of the AST community and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, we are not alone in having to reach this conclusion. Many other universities in Nova Scotia and across Canada have had to make similar difficult decisions.

While we are resolute in following the advice of our public health authorities and doing our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we appreciate that the cancellation of Convocation will be disappointing to our graduating students and their families. Those students will be invited to be celebrated alongside next year’s graduating class at the convocation on May 8, 2021.

It is also important for me to share with you that, for the same reasons, the Board of Governors has decided to postpone our annual Gala Dinner indefinitely.

Our annual Gala Dinner is a wonderful and much-anticipated event. This year, we were delighted and honoured when the inimitable Measha Brueggergosman agreed to be our special guest. We wish to thank Measha for graciously accepting our invitation and to thank everyone involved in organizing the event for their contribution and hard work.

These disappointments and the continuing news about the COVID-19 situation make me more certain every day that our work to serve Christ’s mission of shaping faithful and effective leaders and creating understanding among communities of faith has never been more important.

Thank you

Neale
